Racers 7, Diamonds 0
Akron, OH- Lisa Norris has the Diamonds number in her past two starts, and that number is zero -- as in zero hits.
Norris (8-10) came to within four outs of her first perfect game of the season, but a two-out walk to Jessica Bachkora in the sixth ended those aspirations. Bachkora was the only Diamond hitter to reach first base. Norris fanned eight Diamonds and walked one.
With the win, the Racers (21-17) remain in second place over the Chicago Bandits, while the Diamonds fall to 6-31.
Courtney Bures got the Racers on the board first in the bottom of the second with a single up the middle that plated Taylor Schlopy from second who reached base with a single to lead off the inning. Nicole Trimboli gave the Racers their second run with a solo home run to right center field to lead off the third.
The Racers would add three more in the fourth inning when starter Megan Gibson and Rhiannon Kliesing combined to load the bases. Kliesing’s wild pitch to Nicole Pauly brought home Lisa Modglin who led off the frame with a single. After Pauly walked, Schlopy capped off her hitting clinic with a two-run single past her former Georgia teammate Kristin Schnake at second to give the Racers a 6-0 advantage.
Schlopy and Lisa Modglin each went a perfect 3-for-3. Schlopy (3-for-3, 2 RBI and two runs) raised her batting average to .263 and now has 10 RBI in her rookie season.
The Racers and Diamonds will play the third game of the series tomorrow night at 7:05 at Firestone Stadium.
