ROUND ROCK, Texas – In game one, Lisa Norris threw a complete-game no-hitter to lead the Akron Racers past the NPF Diamonds 3-0 Friday night at The Dell Diamond. It was the first of four meetings between the Racers and Diamonds on the weekend.
Norris went the distance, 7.0 innings, while striking out nine and walking two without allowing a hit. Texas A&M alum Megan Gibson and UT alum Loryn Johnson each walked to get on base but were quickly erased by the next batter.
Courtney Bures led the offensive charge for the Racers, hitting a solo home run in the seventh inning to put the Racers up 3-0. The Racers got the first two runs on a two-RBI single by Nicole Pauly. Kelly Montalvo and Nicole Trimboli each scored on the single.
Lisa Modglin had two singles while Taylor Schlopy and Samantha Marder each added a single of their own for the Racers.
In game two, Kristina Thorson pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Racers past the Diamonds 4-0. Akron swept the double header and lead the series 2-0.
Micaela Minner scored the first run of the game on a double with two errors that allowed her score. Schlopy added a solo home run in the third to push the score to 2-0.
The Racers scored two more runs on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.
Morgan Melloh got the loss for the Diamonds.
The Racers and Diamonds continue their four-game series Saturday night at 6 p.m. CDT at The Dell Diamond. They will play their second double-header in as many days.
