ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Looking to snap their two-game losing streak, the Chicago Bandits’ bats came alive in the last game of this four-game series against the Akron Racers. Led by outstanding pitcher Monica Abbott, the Bandits defeated the Racers 12-3 and gained some momentum as they head on the road.

Giving up just one hit along with eight strikeouts, Abbott was dominant against the Racers lineup. After escaping without a run in the first inning, Abbott settled down and handled the Racers, which included striking out all three batters in the fourth inning.

The Bandits started off the game with a bang as they scored two in the first inning. Following a solid base hit from Danielle Zymkowitz, Megan Wiggins blasted a home run over the left-center field wall and gave the Bandits an early 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, the hits kept coming as Nikki Nemitz smacked a three-run home run and extended the lead to 5-0.

With the departure of pitcher Carla Brookbank-Schaal in the fourth inning, the Bandits continued their tear and never let up. Alisa Goler drove in a two-run single and Nemitz collected her fourth RBI with a single, bringing the score to 8-0.

Entering the fifth inning, Alexis Jager knocked in two more runs for the Bandits with a double and rookie Dorian Shaw added to the fun with an RBI single, setting the score to 12-0.

With Abbott taken out, the Racers would have some success against Donna Bourgeois.   Roya St. Clair drove in two runs with a double and an error by Christine Knauer, brought in another run and left the score at 12-3 heading into the last inning.

The seventh inning featured a fantastic double play by Kristen Shifflett, with the Bandits sending fans home happy from Rosemont Stadium.
