Johnson Homers, Leads Diamonds Past Pride 6-3

BOX SCORE
NPF Diamonds 6, USSSA Pride 3

Miami, FL- The USSSA Pride ended up playing a double header Sunday, as the Diamonds snapped a 7 game losing streak against the Pride in a contest that was resumed from a last Thursday game that started in Daytona and ended here in Miami at Florida International University.

With the win, the Pride are now 5-6 in the standings and the NPF Diamonds are now 4-7 on the young season. It was a game that started with Danielle Lawrie on the mound for the Pride and Morgan Melloh on the mound for the Diamonds.

The USSSA Pride started off the game scoring three runs in the 1st inning. After a quick two outs to the first two batters, Jessica Mendoza singled, and a double by Charlotte Morgan shortly followed. The next batter would be Samantha Findlay who singled to left scoring Mendoza. Francesca Enea would come to the plate, and would advance on an unusual dropped third strike, the ball would be overthrown and both Morgan and Enea would come in to score.

The top of the second would be just as successful for the Diamonds. After two singles by Megan Gibson and Angela Findlay, Loryn Johnson would come to the plate and drive the ball to deep left center for a three run home run to tie the game at 3-3.

The game would remain 3-3 until the top of the 6th, as Megan Gibson would come in to score on a Brittany McKinney single, making it 4-3 Diamonds.

The Diamonds continued to pad their lead in the 7th, as Jessica Bachkora would hit a solo home run to right field. Angela Findlay hit a ball to Natasha Watley that should have been safely thrown to first for the third out, but an error by Watley would leave Findlay safe at first and Biannca Mejia safely scoring at home.

The NPF Diamonds would go on to win the first game 6-3. Morgan Melloh would go on to earn her third win of the season, leaving her record for the season at 3-2. She would give up one earned run, while striking out six. Sarah Pauly would go on to take the loss, leaving her season record at 1-2.

The next Pride game will take place right after this game at 7:05 against the NPF Diamonds as the Series finale.
