Orlando, Fla. -- With a blast to left field, Amanda Williams opened the top of the sixth inning by reaching second base on an error by USSSA Pride left fielder Jessica Mendoza. One batter later she moved to second as Vicky Galindo raced to first, beating out an infield single to put two on with no outs.

After a ground out by Megan Wiggins and flyout by Amber Patton, Pride pitcher Danielle Lawrie walked Rachel Folden to load the bases. Lawrie buckled down, getting Bandits rookie Dorian Shaw to ground out to end the scoring threat and inning.

The Pride would hold their early 2-0 lead to earn their first win of the season.

Jamee Juarez took to the circle for the Bandits on Opening Day of the regular season, battling the Pride lineup for six innings strong. The only hiccup in the Bandits defense came in the bottom of the first when Juarez walked Charters to start a two-run inning. Jessica Mendoza and Kelly Kretschman both singled to bring in two runs for a 2-0 Pride lead.

Juarez settled down, pitching six innings with two hits, five strikeouts and one walk, but the Bandits offense could not get going in their first game of the season, putting just two hits on the board against Lawrie.

Lawrie finished the game with seven innings pitched, two hits and three strikeouts.

Quotes: Jamee Juarez, Chicago Bandits P
“I was excited to play today, i’m pumped that the season has begun. Besides the two runs I settled in and did my job I had to do we just couldn't get things going tonight. It's a long season and we'll straighten things out.”
