Cowgirl Softball Falls to NPF All-Stars, 6-0
Stillwater, Okla. -- Cat Osterman struck out 11 Cowgirls in four innings as the National Pro Fastpitch All-Stars defeated Oklahoma State 6-0 here Wednesday evening at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. It was the final game of the fall season for OSU as the Cowgirls dropped to 6-2.
Junior shortstop Chelsea Garcia went 2-for-3 against the All-Stars, getting a hit off both Osterman and reliever Danielle Lawrie. Garcia also stole a base after leading off the fifth inning with a base hit up the middle. Lawrie was the NCAA Player of the Year the past two seasons before joining the NPF this summer.
The NPF squad scored two runs in the top of the second on a home run by Lawrie off Cowgirl starter Kat Espinosa. An inning later, the All-Stars scored three more runs off freshman Morgan Hawkins, including a two-run homer by Francesca Enea. The NPF team added a run in the sixth when Megan Willis, a former Texas Longhorn, scored on a base hit by Lawrie.
Oklahoma State head coach Rich Wieligman threw all four Cowgirl pitchers. Freshman Simone Freeman threw two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit when Lawrie led off the fourth with a base hit to centerfield. The former Washington Husky went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in. OSU senior Sarah Odom threw the final two innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out one.
The Cowgirls will open the 2011 season on Friday, Feb. 11, as Oklahoma State travels to Phoenix, Ariz., to compete in the Kajikawa Classic.
