Bandits Do It Again

Bandits Do It Again
Bandits Advance After the 4-1 Win Over the Diamonds

It is the bottom of the fifth. The bases are loaded. With one swing of the bat, Samantha Findlay turns a 0-1 deficit into a 4-1 lead as she belts a grand slam, putting the Chicago Bandits (2-0) into the Championship Series Finals in Sulphur, La.

“I think I perform well under pressure,” says Findlay, “I saw a good pitch and went with it.” The Bandits were looking for someone to step up and embrace the pressure, with the Bandits’ bats unable to capitalize against a once-again dominant Monica Abbott (0-2) and they found it off of the bat of Findlay, who hit her second homerun in two games in the Championship Series.

“I knew our team was going to hit,” says Bandits’ starting pitcher and NPF Rookie of the Year, Nikki Nemitz (1-0). Nemitz took to the pitcher’s circle from start to finish this evening, throwing seven innings, allowing five hits, two runs (one earned), six strikeouts, and zero walks for a 1.00 ERA on the night.

Monica Abbott went the distance for the second night in a row for the Tennessee Diamonds (0-2), throwing six innings with 10 hits, four earned runs, seven strikeouts, and zero walks en route to a 3.50 ERA on the night.

Tonight’s loss to the Chicago Bandits ends the Diamonds’ 2010 season, a reversal from the 2009 postseason with Abbott’s then-USSSA Florida Pride team ending the Bandits’ 2009 season.

The Bandits will begin the Championship Series Finals against the winner of the #3 Akron Racers and #2 USSSA Florida Pride series tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.

Note: The last time the Bandits were in the Championship Finals was 2008 when they defeated the Washington Glory (now the USSSA Florida Pride) for their first championship in team history.
