ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Philadelphia Force (10-26) used solid pitching and timely hitting to defeat the USSSA Pride (14-23) Thursday night in the second game of a five-game set in front of 458 fans and spectators.
Rookie Kristin Erb began the game for the Force and went four shutout innings to garner the win for Philadelphia. Margo Pruis and Darcy Wood finished the last three innings for the victory, allowing only one run to cross the plate to finish the game.
Emily Friedman and Auriel Jenkins got the big hits for the force, each driving in a run throughout the game. The first run of the game was scored when Jami Lobpries maneuvered around the bases and scored on an error by the second baseman, allowing Danielle Kinley to reach base in the fourth inning.
Friedman and Jenkins had their big hits in the sixth inning, each driving in a run. Brette Reagan also drove in a run, plating Friedman on a fielder’s choice.
Reagan later scored on Jenkins’ double, also bringing in Lillian Hammond, aided by another error on the second baseman.
Sara Larquier tried to get a rally started for the Pride, facing a 5-0 deficit against the Force’s new pitcher, Darcy Wood. She homered to lead the inning off, but Wood was able to retire the next three to seal the win for the Force.
Erb’s line read four innings, two hits and two walks in a shutout effort. Pruis struck out two in her two innings of relief work, giving up two hits, and walking one. Wood allowed the one run, but struck out one as well in the final inning of relief. Play will continue in the series tomorrow night from Bicentennial Park at 7:35 p.m.
