Akron beats Rockford 3-2 in Game One

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AKRON, OHIO – Akron Racers’ (17-16) ace, Angela Tincher got close
enough to almost touch a perfect game on her way to out pitching
Rockford Thunder pitcher Allison Kime in a 3-2 victory.

Tincher (11-5) retired the first 16 batters before giving up a one out
double in the top of the sixth inning to Savannah Brown.  The two-
bagger broke up a perfect game bid for Tincher.

Rockford (14-19) got to Tincher a little bit in the top of the seventh
inning, but by then it was too late.  A leadoff error by second
baseman Veronica Wootson was followed two batters later by a home run
by Lindsay Gardner to leftfield.  The blast brought Rockford back to a
one run deficit 3-2.

Tincher threw the complete game winner giving up two runs, one earned,
on two hits while striking out ten.  Her performance moves Tincher to
the league lead in wins with 11.  Tincher is also second in the league
in both strikeouts (113) and ERA (1.76).

Even with the outstanding pitching performance Tuesday night’s game
was far from easy.  It was that tough because for five innings,
Rockford’s Kime was just as tough.  Kime allowed only three hits and
no runs through the first five innings.

Kristen Butler’s bases loaded groundout in the bottom of the sixth
inning scored Kellie Middleton and was the start of another night of
late inning heroics for the Akron Racers.

The rally started when Middleton and Wootson hit back to back base
hits.  Norrelle Dickson reached on an error by shortstop Audrey Rendon
and the bases were full of Racers.

After Butler’s groundout, Kate Robinson followed suit to bring in
Veronica Wootson and make the score 2-0. That left Norrelle Dickson on
third base. After an Angelena Mexicano walk, Mexicano stole second,
causing a poor throw by catcher Savannah Brown, and allowed Dickson to
score from third on the error.  The inning jumped Akron out to a 3-0
lead.

Robinson was 1 for 3 with an RBI, while Veronica Wootson and Norrelle
Dickson were each 1 for 3. Kellie Middleton was 1 for 1.

Allison Kime (6-6) got the loss for Rockford, allowing two earned runs
in 6.1 innings of work, striking out three.

The Racers and Thunder will play the next three nights at Firestone
Stadium in Akron. Each game will start at 7:05.  Tickets can be
purchased by visiting akronracers.org or by calling 330-876-8188.
