AKRON, OHIO - Lauren Regula and Robin Mackin combined for a no-hitter
against the Akron Racers on Wednesday evening at Firestone Stadium to
win the game 3-0. The duo combined to strike out 13 of the 25 total
Racer batters during the game, and the Racers (6-7) were shut out for
the fourth time this season.
Racers’ ace Angela Tincher (4-2) performed nearly as well as the pair
of Canadian pitchers, making only one mistake that proved costly.
Team Canada shortstop Jennifer Salling proved to be the thorn in the
Racers’ side all night, connecting on a solo home run to right field
off Tincher in the top of the fourth inning at Firestone Stadium to
push Canada ahead of Akron for good.
Salling then later connected for a two-run double in the seventh off
of Radara McHugh to give the Canadians a pair of insurance runs.
For the evening, Salling led the Canadian National team going 2 for 4
knocking in all three runs of the game.
Lauren Regula started and got the victory for Canada, after tossing
four inning of no-hit softball. She also struck out eight of the 14
batters she faced and walked just one. Robin Mackin closed out the
game for the Canadians, pitching three innings to close out the no-
hitter and earning the save. She struck out five and walked three.
Angela Tincher (4-2) received the loss for the Racers after lasting
four innings. She allowed three hits and one earned run, and struck
out two. She also walked two. Radara McHugh finished the game for
Akron, allowing two earned runs in three innings of work.
Team Canada is now 8-1 against NPF teams after taking 3 of 4 from
Chicago and completing a four-game sweep of Rockford.
The Racers continue the four game series with the Canadian National
Team the next three nights from Thursday through Saturday. Thursday
and Friday’s games will take place at 7:05 p.m. Saturday’s Game will
