Rosemont, Ill - July 10, 2014 - Kristen Butler’s hot hitting streak continued as her first inning two run homer turned out to be the game winner for the Bandits, taking game one of the series against the Pennsylvania Rebellion, 2-1.

Despite the first inning home run, the game turned out to be pitcher duel between starters Monica Abbott and the Rebellion’s Sarah Pauly.

The Rebellion had an opportunity to open the scoring first as they loaded the bases in the top of the first, but the Bandits were able to get out of the jam.

Butler made the Bandits pay in the bottom of the inning with her two run shot that was her second in as many games.

The Rebellion’s only run of the game came in the third off a Bianca Mejia RBI that plated Brittney Lindley, who tripled earlier in the inning, cutting the lead in half, but that was the only offense either team would muster.

Abbott picked up her fourth win of the season, holding the Rebellion to just two hits and one run while striking out nine in her complete game outing.

Pauly was equally as impressive despite suffering the loss, giving up just two runs on four hits including four strikeouts.

GAME NOTES:

  • The attendance for today’s game was 1,302
  • Abbott’s ERA is now a 1.18 and leads the Bandits with 54 strikeouts
  • In her last five games, Butler has three homeruns and nine RBIs
